About Soozy
My work grows out of scale, intuition, and the emotional atmosphere of a space. I paint large abstract pieces that don’t just sit on a wall, but change how a room feels. I want each work to have presence, quiet depth, and a sense of understated luxury.
Most people who approach me don’t come with a clear picture of what they want. They begin with a feeling. Often they can describe the mood or the energy they’re drawn to, but the image itself is still forming somewhere in the background.
My job is to draw that out.
Over the years, I’ve developed a sort of instinct for what someone is trying to express before they’ve found the words for it. It’s almost like listening beneath what they’re saying and catching the emotional thread they’re actually following. From that, I build a visual language that turns something vague or half-imagined into something real and defined.
Every commission becomes a conversation. I spend a lot of time considering scale, surface, and movement, and how those elements sit within the architecture of a room. These works are meant to be lived with, to surround you. They’re not just visual moments; they’re environments that unfold slowly, like a memory you suddenly recognise.
I’m not simply following instructions. I’m giving form to what someone has been sensing but couldn’t quite name.
When a piece is finished, it usually feels familiar to the collector – as if it’s something they’ve carried with them for a long time, only now they can finally see it. That feeling of recognition is what I’m always working toward: taking something elusive and making it tangible, layered, and deeply personal.

Soozy Barker’s commission process is collaborative and personal. Every project begins with a conversation, either in person or online, where Soozy takes the time to understand your vision, the intended placement of the artwork, and the atmosphere you hope to create. She can also visit your home to discuss the ideal size, scale, and colours directly within the space the piece will inhabit.
A key part of her approach is the careful consideration of colour and texture. Clients are encouraged to share photos of their interiors, along with fabric samples, paint swatches, and other decorative elements. This allows Soozy to study the nuances of your interior styling, including both natural and artificial lighting, ensuring the artwork harmonises beautifully with your furnishings and fabrics.
Once the overall concept and palette are provisionally agreed, Soozy provides mood boards and digital mock-ups to help finalise the brief. This stage is a collaborative step, allowing for feedback and refinement before the final painting phase.
Pricing for commissioned works is available on application, as each piece is tailored in scale, complexity, and materials to match your specific requirements.
The result is a beautiful bespoke piece of art that will energise your living space, inspire discussion, lift moods, and perfectly reflect your interior styling themes and aspirations.
